EXCLUSIVE: Eminem Gets Candid About Addiction
Tuesday, May 12, 2009
Eminem thought his 2005 album Curtain Call would be his last, but he’s set to drop Relapse on May 19. He told MuchNews exactly why he needed a break from the music business and which prescription drugs were involved with his addiction.
"Career-wise, I knew that I needed to take a break," Em says, "basically from the spotlight. I was going through a pretty serious drug addiction at the time. My best friend passed away. There were a lot of things going on and I think at that time my world was just spiralling."
The rapper was candid with the list of prescription drugs that fuelled his addiction. "Sleeping pills, Valium, Ambien. But also Vicodin. Whatever I could get my hands on and anything that I felt could help me fall asleep." When asked why he had so much trouble sleeping, Em admitted: "I think most of it was probably in my head."
Make sure to check out the half-hour special with the rap star, "Hooking Up With Eminem" on Monday 18 at 8pm ET on MuchMusic.
