Eminem Relapses Into Movies Too
Rob Kenner
Rapper will be making a cameo in a new Judd Apatow film, Funny People
Eminem's long-awaited return to the rap game is only the beginning of his comeback after years battling drug addiction. VIBE has learned that the Detroit MC who starred in the hit 2002 movie 8 Mile (Imagine Entertainment) will soon be returning to the silver screen.
In an out-take from his first-person cover story in VIBE's June 2009 Real Rap Issue-which details his nearly fatal overdose, recovery, and triumphant return to hip hop-Eminem also reveals that he recently shot a scene for the latest Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin) flick.
"I just did a cameo a few months ago with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen in a Judd Apatow produced film," Eminem reveals. "It's called Funny People." In the film, Adam Sandler stars as a famous comedian diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Seth Rogen plays an aspiring comedian taken under the wing of Sandler's ailing character. Due from Universal pictures this July, the film's cast also includes the RZA, Jonah Hill, and Sarah Silverman.
"I kinda do a little cameo in that," states Eminem, "which was fun by the way. And 8 Mile was not a fun movie to shoot." In his VIBE cover story, Eminem muses that the grueling production schedule of 8 Mile may have contributed to his dependency on the prescription drug Ambien. "Will I end up doing another movie again?" he muses. "Probably yeah." Eminem's new album Relapse (Shady / Aftermath / Interscope) drops next week.
