Chapter One: Trouble At Home

The chilly L.A night air hit me as I opened my bedroom window. I put my backpack over my shoulders and slipped out of the window and onto the roof. I turned around and closed the window behind me. I walked as quietly as I could over to the tree right next to the house and quickly climbed down it, and bam. I was out.

I walked down the block, and arrived at my friend Tesha's house a few minutes later. Her parents were out of town, so I wasn't worried about waking them up or anything. I picked up a rock and threw it at her bedroom window. Nothing. I did that with a handful of rocks, and about thirty seconds later she appeared at the window and pulled it open.

"Girl, what are you doing here, it's almost two in the mourning," She said groggily.
I
I looked at her for a second with out saying anything.

"You got into another fight with your mom," She said, not a question, but a statement.

"You know it," I said, "Now let me in! It's fucking cold out here!"

"Walking the streets of Compton at two in the mourning," She said, opening the front door a minute later, "You must be crazy. You trying to get raped, or killed?"

"You always were the more sensible one..." I said, smiling and dropping my backpack on her couch.

"Talk to your daddy lately?" She asked, as we both sat across from each other at the dinner table. She gave me a Pepsi.

"Naw," I said, "But he sent me some money. He makin alot off of his new album. Six hundred and eight thousand in just the first month. He got bank rolls, now girl."

"Your momma know?" She asked.

"Hell no," I replied immidetiatly, "She'd flip her lid. Child support, she wants money for her bills. You know how she is."

"So what did ya'll get in a fight over?"

"The usual," I stated, and then mocked my mothers voice, "You're lazy, you're ungrateful, you're spoiled, you're just like your father. Blah, blah fuckity blah."

"She right, though, you know," Tesha commented.

"What you mean?"

"You are just like your father," She said.

"Am not!" I denied, "How?"

"Ya'll both got quick tempers, bad mouths, that i-don't-give-a-shit-attitude. The authority problem. Ya'll look just alike. Want anymore proof?" She asked, grinning at me.

"Dude, shut up." I said, reaching across the table and punching her arm playfully.

"Can we go to sleep now?" She said, "I'm so tired."

We got up and threw our pepsi cans in the garbage. I changed into shorts and a tank top and crawled into the King size bed that Tesha and I shared whenever I was at her house. I was more tired than I thought because it wasn't long until I fell into a deep sleep.

Loving the beginning already. cheers It reminds me of Em's & his mother's relationship all played out again. With the dad gone & Kim fighting with her daughter saying she act's like her father, then her sneaking out like Marshall used too. The only difference is Marshall's still apart of her life a bit by sending money. I wonder how their relationship will be once they do speak again. I wanna see how this plays out. I have so many intriguing questions like why haven't they spoke. Where has he been & does she blame him for leaving her with her destructive mom & such. LOL lol! Can't wait for an update. Keep it up!! cheers cheers

Chapter Two: Trouble Brewing In Compton

Aint nothin good in the hood I'd run away from this bitch and never come back if I could...

I knew my mother would be mad that I'd left the night before. If she even noticed this time. I didn't really, care, though because it wasn't like I listened to anything she said anyways. I was almost eighteen years old now. She couldn't really tell me what to do anyways. Not that I listened to her when I was younger anyway.

It wasn't that my dad and I didn't talk- it was that we hadn't been talking that much in recent weeks because he was busy because of his new album. I didn't hold it against him, and I wasn't angry with him. He was working, and I understood that. It wasn't like he wasn't there because he didn't want to be there. And it wasn't like he wasn't there because he was too hyped up on drugs, like my mother.

"We ain't had a shooting on this block in almost two months," Tesha commented as we sat on her porch around two p.m. the next day. It was scorching hot, and I was in shorts and a bikini top, working on my tan. She was right, though. We hadn't had a shooting on our block in almost two months. It was kind of a miracle for a south-side Compton neighborhood.

"It'll happen soon," I said, "I can feel it."

"What you mean?"

"Think about it, Tesha," I explained, "It hasn't happened in almost two months. People around us gonna start thinking somebody is going to shoot somebody soon, right? Then those people will start carrying guns to protect themselves and it will make it easier for them to shoot somebody up. Plus, this damn heat makes people real angry, real quick."

"Girl, you just paranoid."

"Better safe then sorry," I shrugged.

"Yeah, I guess," She said, "Wanna go to the store and get something to drink?"

"Yeah, sure," I answered, "Just let me get a shirt."

I went into the house and pulled on a white wife beater. I pulled a brush through my light blonde hair and let it fal over my shoulders. I put on deodorant, slipped on my flips flops and went outside.

"Ready?" Tesha asked.

"You bet," I asked, putting my sunglasses on.

"I have a weird feeling," Tesha said, "Somethin' gonna happen."

"What you mean?"

"Not bad, I don't think," She said thoughtfully, "I just have a feeling that somethin gonna happen. Somethin damn big, too."

"I don't think so..."

"I'm tellin you," Tesha replied, "Somethin gonna happen to one of us. You'll see. And when it do, don't tell me I ain't warn you."

"Girl, you crazy," I said, "What, you psychic now?"

"I'm thinkin' of startin' my own psychic business, actually," She grinned sarcastically.

"Quit playin', Tesha," I said, pushing her a little.

Just as I said that, somebody drove by in a beat up car and honked at us. We ignored it. It happened alot when we walked places. We'd gotten used to it by now.

"You hear about them Latin Kings that done got killed the other day?" Tesha said.

"No shit?" I asked, shocked a little, "What happened?"

"Crips and the Latin Kings got in a damn gang fight on the East side. Three of them mother fuckers died."

"How many Crips?" I asked.

"None," She replied.

"Damn," I said, shaking my head, "Them two groups dumb as fuck. I wouldn't fuck with either one of them."

I was really good friends with alot of Bloods. I didn't know many teenage boys that lived around me that weren't in the Blood gang. It was kind of hard not to get influenced by the Bloods. As it showed, the Bloods were a lot smarter then the other gangs. I had been with Blood girls a few parties and gotten in fights with rival gangs. I wasn't in a gang, but the the Crips and Latin Kings, I was. In gang warfare, you're either for or against a gang. You can't be in the middle. There's no median.

"Brooklyn!" I heard from across the street.

Tesha and I turned around and saw a guy from our block, DeAndre.

"I been callin' your damn name for a minute, little girl," He said.

"First of all," I said, putting my hands on my hips, "You should have called louder. And second, who you callin' a little girl?"

"You're lil four-foot-three ass," He said back.

"I'm five-foot-fucking-two, asshole," I snapped.

"Yeah, and-" He began.

"Oh would you two shut up," Tesha said, "You two always fightin' and shit. De, stop antagonizing her. What you want?"

"There a party up on Twenty-Third street tonight," He said, "Ya'll wanna ride with me?"

"Hell yeah," I answered immediately, "What time you wanna pick us up?"

"I'll be at your house at ten thirty," He said.

"Naw," I answered, "Pick me up at Tesha's house."

"You fightin' with your momma again?"

"You know it," I answered.

"Aight," He said, "See ya'll at ten thirty."

He turned around and walked away, and Tesha and I had our plans for the night.

PostSubject: Chapter Three: The Party NC-17   As The World Turns Icon_minitimeWed Jun 10, 2009 2:58 pm

Chapter Three: The Party

When DeAndre, Tesha and I got to the party that night, it was already bumping. People were packed in the house from wall to wall, all of them getting drunk or already drunk. Music blared from speakers, and people were yelling over the music to talk to each other. Coolers held drinks on tables, most of them alcoholic drinks.

I'd learned the rules of partying at an early age. Don't fall asleep on the couch, you will get drew on. It hadn't happened to me- thank God- but I'd seen it happen to many people before. Don't throw up on anybody. You will get into a fight. I'd never thrown up on anybody, but I'd been the one thrown up on. And I fought the dumb girl. I didn't like her anyway.

"What you want?" Tesha said to me as she went to get a drink.

Another rule? Don't start off with hard liquor. Not a good idea.

"Smirnoff Ice," I answered, and she returned with our drinks a moment later. We were chilling in the living room, talking to some people we hadn't seen in a while. A few of them just got done being locked up, and they were partying to celebrate their release. Shit- I'd be celebrating too. I'd never been locked up, but I'd been arrested a few times. Luckily, the charges had been dropped.

But most of the time, I just ran from the cops. And got away.

My dad knew about none of these times. Thank God. He'd probably flip his lid and lock me in a closet for the rest of my life. He was a little overprotective sometimes. But could you blame him? With my mother taking care of me, I'd worry if I was him too.

I knew that there was going to be some type of fight or drama at the party, and when there was, Tesha and I made our way to the empty kitchen to avoid it. I sat on top of the counter, munching on some potato chips that were in the kitchen. I could hear people shouting, girls screaming. I wasn't in the mood for no fight right now.

"What ya'll doin back here?" DeAndre asked, walking into the kitchen a few minutes later.

"I ain't trying to get in no fight," I said, brushing the chip crumbs off of my hands.

"Oh, they done," He said.

"They are?"

"Yeah, one of those crazy bitches fighting left," DeAndre said. We went back into the living room and the party had resumed. I learned the fight had been two girls with their baby-momma drama, and I was hella glad that I did not get involved.

I was starting to get pretty drunk. Not the I-Don't-Know-What-I'm-Doing drunk, but the I'm-Having-Alot-Of-Fun drunk. I was stumbling a little bit, and slurring my words. DeAndre, on the other hand, hardly ever showed that he was drunk, unless he was wasted.

"Brooklyn," He said, grabbing my arm.

"Wha-What?" I asked, looking at his hand on my arm then up at him.

"We gotta get out of here," He said, pulling me towards the door.

"Why?" I said, pulling my arm out of his grip, "I- I'm having fun."

"The cops are on their way," He said, "Tesha already in the car. Come on."

He grabbed my arm again and pulled me through the crowd. I let him this time because I'd probably trip with out him stabilizing me. I was starting to get really hungry, too, which always happened when I was drunk.

He put me in the front seat of his car and got in, driving away. We pulled into a parking lot of a late-night fast food restaurant, just as two police cars whizzed by, their lights on.

PostSubject: Chapter Four: The Fight   As The World Turns Icon_minitimeTue Jun 16, 2009 2:45 pm

Chapter Four: The Fight

"Brooklyn, wake up!" Tesha said urgently, shaking me awake at around noon the next day. I sat up, confused and tired.

"Wha-what's wrong?" I asked groggily, yawning. She looked mad- furious, even. I started to get worried.

"It's Ashley- she's in the hospital," She said, speaking of her fifteen year old cousin. I ripped the covers off of me and jumped out bed.

"What?" I exclaimed, "What happened? Is she okay?"

"She okay," She growled, "She got to get stiches in a few places, but she okay. Those fucking Latin Queens jumped her on Sixty-Third street. And you can come with me or not, but I'm goin down there to beat some ass."

"Your damn right I'm coming with you," I said hotly, "You know who it is that jumped her?"

"Yeah, it was four of em," I said, "I know what they look like, but I don't know they names. Jayden and Chrissy comin with us. They gonna be here in ten minutes."

I changed into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. It was hot, but it's stupid to wear shorts during a fight. It's easier to get scratches and cuts on your legs when you wearing shorts.

I put my hair into a bun and tied a red bandana around my head- Tesha did the same. We weren't in the gang, but Ashley was. So were Jayden and Chrissy. I liked Ashley, and I wasn't about to let anybody get away with jumping her.

Jayden and Chrissy showed up a few minutes later, and we were all ready to go. I was angry- we were all angry, especially Tesha because Ashley is her family. I knew this probably wasn't the smartest idea, but something had to be done.

Sixty third street was in the middle of Latin King territory, and it was dangerous for all of us to go in there with us wearing the Blood colors, but I didn't think any one of us cared.

Latin King territory seemed to be deserted. We didn't see anybody outside, barley any cars. It seemed wierd. Creepy, even.

"You know where these girls are?" I asked.

"Right down the damn road," Jayden said, focused on the group of girls about a block and a half down the road.

These girls were all about our age, 17 and 18. And it was some bullshit that they jumped a fifteen year old girl. There was a brief shouting match before the fight actually started.

I got a girl that was a little chubbier than me, but also shorter and slower. I doubted any of these girls knew how to fight ver well. The only reason they beat Ashley becaue it was four-against-one.

She was a good match too. Strong, but I was stronger. She threw a few good punches, but I got in more. From what I saw in the corner of my eye, Jayden, Chrissy and Tesha were winning their fights too.

I hadn't been in a fist fight in a few months, so I was a little rusty, but I was still doing really good. I was going to win the fight, I could see it already.

I was on top of the girl, thrwoing a fury of fists at her face. She rolled on top of me and managed a good punch to my head, right above my right eye. I felt it cut open. She must be wearing a ring.

We wrestled and fought for what seemed like a long time, but in reality it was only a couple of minutes. I was starting to get tired, but I couldn't let weakness show. She'd take advantage of that in a second.

Grabbing her by the hair, I rolled back ontop of her and was about to punch her square in the mouth when someone grabbed me by my shirt and yanked me off of her. I wrestled with whoever it was, trying to get back to my fight.

I saw two blue and white cars, and four other men breaking up the other fights.

It was a cop.

Shit.

He put my hands behind my back.

"You're under arrest. You have the right to remain silent...."

Brooklyn is a bad girl... and she may has a little attitude problem.
I really want to see what happens next and what her father and mum are saying to that litte stunt.

You know sometimes the kim-characters in this emfics bothering me. Evil, addicted, cheating bitches... I mean we don't know if the Kim in your story is really so bad, because we only know Brooklyns point of view. Just the fact that Em is such a good father (although he doesn't even live with his daugther in this story and he knows her mother is no good- according to brooklyn?!? What kind of father let that happen?) bothers me sometimes
But that's just me Very Happy lol!
I mean... it would be cool to read more about the mother-daugther father-daugther father-mother relationships and it would be cool if kim wasn't the evil one, you know?
But again... thats just me.

Your story, your baby. I still like it... Smile

loved the update & am sorry I couldn't comment because my computer is busted. Sad As for the Kim character, idk it doesn't bother me when she's bad because it's interesting & what we're use to I guess. When you hear something so long it just sticks for some people, that & sometimes the point in the story are time periods when she was going through that so I can't knock anyone for writing what they feel. It makes good entertainment:) and that's all it is. I don't want someone twisting what they had in mind just to please a certain type of audience because that's their right. It's their work. Smile As for the fighting scene, I have a feeling Brookyln might get off the hook & Em might argue with Kim for not watching her. Even though it was brooklyn's choice, Kim may get blamed 4 it. LOL

oh don't get me wrong...
the author shoudn't change anything in the story just because what I feel or think. Like I said. Your baby.
I just think that her character sometimes is to easy, shallow... she's evil. thats it. (not in this story because we don't now anything about her so far.)
I like it a when there is a bit more, bit deeper, more variety. especially because this persons are based on a real character. But again again Smile that's just me.
If I don't like something I don't have to read it. (but I like this story... btw.) just my opinion, just my feedback. Do whatever the hack you want with it... lol!

the author shoudn't change anything in the story just because what I feel or think.
Do whatever the hack you want with it... lol!

Hey yellowbird. Smile I didn't mean my statement directly at u. I love you I just meant I know how on other boards people bitch & moan about what a writer did & then the person will do a whole new version & the story will take another route not intended. I know because I've done it myself lol. lol! I agree with you 1000% & love ur honest imput. Smile I just also want people to feel comfortable to write with they please here---if it isn't disrespectful. cheers

thanks for the feedback guys!!!
don't worry, yellowbird, i'm not mad.
i wanted your opinion, and i got it.
Smile
i made Kim this bad for a reason...
it'll probably make more sense to you why Kim acts like this
further in the story....
if Kim really acts like this in real life, I don't know so I can't make any judgements.
you know what i mean?
that's just how i'm projecting her in this story.
but yeah
thanks for the feedback!!!

Chapter Five: Jailtime

I was sitting in the back of the ambulence, handcuffed and getting stitches in my forehead. I didn't know it was bleeding until the cop arresting me called 911. The other girl looked worse than me, though. Alot worse. They'd already taken Tesha to jail.

The guy in the ambulence wiped the rest of the blood off of my face and gave me a drink of water. He had actually been nice, treating me like a regular person, instead of a murderer like the cop was treating me.

"Get in the back of the car," The cop said, grabbing my arm as I got out of the ambulence. I jerked my arm from his grip.

"I can walk, thanks," I snapped as he opened the door. I got in, and he slammed it, muttering something about 'the corrupt youth of America these days...' I knew I was in a shit load of trouble. Somehow, I had to keep my mother and my dad from knowing.

Especially my dad.

I was only seventeen. I didn't want to die yet.

They uncuffed me and put me in the holding cell, where among thirty other grown women, was Tesha. I hugged her, and we sat against the wall together. I frowned.

"I have such a fucking headache," I said, leanding my head against the cold brick wall.

"Me too," Tesha said, "But that fight was worth it."

"Mmmhhmmm," I said, "Where are Jayden and..."

"They ran," Tesha said, "Lucky, they got away."

"Good," I said, "Aint no use all four of us goin to jail for this bullshit."

"True," Tesha said.

"Jones, Mathers, come here," The guard said. The both of us got up, and he opened the holding cell door for us. We stepped out, and shouts and curses came from the women inside still.

He sat us down at an interview table.

"Now, we don't usually do this, so consider yourself lucky," He began, "All you guys did is get in some stupid fist fight. Our jail is crowded enough as it is, aint no use for you guys bein up in here. So were letting you go."

I really, honestly couldn't believe my luck.

He was letting us go.

"Yo, Tesha, let's get out of here before this dude changes his mind," I said, tugging on her sleeve.

"I second that thought," She said, standing up.

We were walking down the hallway when I heard a familiar voice.

"Stop," I said just before we got to the next hallway. I peaked around the corner, and my jaw dropped. It was Jayceon 'The Game' Taylor. My heart jumped into my throat.

"We can't let him see us," I whispered to Tesha, "He'll flip, and tell my dad."

The beef between Jayceon and Curtis had long since subsided adn they were - and had been- close friends again for a long time.

I jetted across the hallway.

"Brooklyn?" He said, "Is that you?"

I froze.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, "And what happened to you? You look horrible."

I really, honestly couldn't believe my luck.

PostSubject: Chapter Six   As The World Turns Icon_minitimeSun Jun 21, 2009 3:39 pm

Chapter Six: Dad

"Come on, I'm taking you to my house and I'm calling your dad," He said, grabbing my arm. I wiggled loose.

"Hold on," I said. There was no way that I could talk myself out of this, I could tell. I was in some deep shit. I called Tesha over to me, who seemed almost star struck because of Jayceon.

I whispered in her ear quietly, "Get the gun out of my room. Sell it. Just get it out of my room."

She nodded and hugged me goodbye.

I'd never used it. I'd never even touched it since I got it, but if my dad found out about it he would probably lock me in a cell for the rest of my life. I had it just in case I needed it. And I hadn't so far.

"Come on, Brooklyn," He said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me outside. I was hella nervous- my dad was going to kill me. I was only seventeen, and I was going to die.

"What were you doing here?" I asked, suddenly curious.

"That's none of your business," He said, opening his car door for me and waiting for me to get it. I got in, and he shut the door. I put on my seat-belt.

God kill me now, if you care I thought Get it over with, quick and painless. I'm begging you.

"You tell me what you were doing in a jail," He demanded.

I told him the story.

"You can't tell me that you don't think that it was a good reason to fight," I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Yeah, I guess," He agreed, "But it was still dumb to do. You could have gotten hurt. Someone could have-"

"Please, Jayceon," I said, holding up my hand, "I'm going to hear enough of this from my father."

Tesha's Point Of View

Brooklyn was in a shit load of trouble, and would be in more if I didn't get that gun from her house. If felt bad for her. Her dad was a little overprotective. The complete opposite of her mother, though.

I was just glad that they were letting us go. I hated jail- it creeped me out. All those women, at least half of them were lesbo's. I didn't want to get raped by a girl called 'Butch.'

No Thanks

I looked up at Brooklyn's house. Her mom was home. I couldn't go in the front door, I realized. What was I supposed to say? Hi, Brooklyn is going to be in trouble with her dad, and I have to get her gun. I was going to have to sneak in.

I climbed the tree next to her window and got onto the roof as quietly as I could. I pushed the window open and tip toed in. I got the gun from under her bed and got out. I didn't want to be in there any longer than I had to.

I didn't want her mother to find me.

I closed the window and tossed the gun on the ground. DeAndre could sell it quick for me. He was good like that. I climbed back down the tree and went immediatly to DeAndre's house. I couldn't risk getting caught with the gun either.

He agreed to sell it for me after I told him what happened to us. I went home that night, thinking of Brooklyn.

Brooklyn's Point Of View

"You did what?!" My dad yelled over the phone. I flinched back. Jayceon had left the room to give us privacy.

"Daddy, I-" I began.

"I'm coming to Compton," He said, angry.

"Daddy, you don't need to do that," I reasoned.

"Too late," He snapped, "I really thought you were smarter than that. You are so lucky that they let you go."

"I know, Daddy," I said, frowning, "But-"

"But nothing," He growled, "I already talked to Jayceon. You are going to stay at his house until I get there. He's going to take you to Kim's to get clothes and shit."

"Fine," I muttered, defeated.

"I'll see you when I get there," He said, still angry. He added, "I love you"

"I love you too, Daddy. Bye," I said, smiling a little bit. My mom never said that to me.

"Goodbye, Brooklyn," He said, and hung up.

"Come on, you little juvinile," Jayceon joked, "Let's go get some clothes."

"Look who finally showed up," My mother sneered when I got home. I looked at her and rolled my eyes.

"Please," I huffed, "I'm leaving."

"Says who?" She said.

"Me," I snapped.

I got some clothes, a toothbrush and all my makeup and stuff and quickly got out of there. I didn't want to be there any longer then I had to.

The Next Day

"You dissapear from your mothers for two days, get in a fight, get arrested..." My dad listed. I was sitting on the couch, frowning. DeShaun and my father paced the space in front of me.

"Anything else?" DeShaun asked, throwing his hands in the air, being his over dramatic self, "You kill someone too?"

I snickered a little bit, and my dad punched DeShaun in the arm.

"You could have gotten hurt, killed, shot..." He said, "And you did get hurt, I see them Gotdamn stiches in your head, Brooklyn Marie."

I touched them, almost forgetting. DeShaun snickered at the use of my middle name.

"What you bring him for anyways?" I asked.

"DeShaun, man, shut up," My dad said, "You aint helping. Brooklyn, I'm moving to Florida. And you're coming with me."

Chapter Seven: Paparazzi

"You're, like, joking right?" I asked as I stared out of the tinted windows of the limo that my dad, DeShaun and I were sitting in. We were outside of the air port, and there were a hoard of paparazzi waiting for us.

Or my dad, rather.

It was ridiculous. I'd gotten up at six to get to the airport, hadn't eaten breakfast, and was still annoyed at the whole getting-caught-getting-arrested thing. I was in a really bad mood.

Now was the perfect time to get into a fist fight- just to get rid of all my anger. I was in shorts and a tank top, but it was supposed to rain in Florida. These were the only clothes I didn't pack.

It was only seven-thirty in the mourning, and my day was already gone to shit.

"This is what I deal with whenever I go somewhere that isn't with in a ten mile radius of my home," My dad said, "You might just have to get used to it when we go places together. Are you ready?"

"Ready as I'll ever be," I huffed, running my fingers through my hair. I put on sunglasses. The limo driver got out and opened the door for us. DeShaun got out, then me, then my dad.

They all started to flash their stupid little cameras in our faces, yelling questions and demanding answers. It didn't take long for me to get aggravated and want to yank one of their cameras out of their hands and smash them on the ground.

"Try to keep your temper," DeShaun said in my ear, "Just what we want to see in Us Weekly is 'Rap Stars Daughter Murders Paparazzi.'"

"Shut up, man," I snapped, "You lucky they here, cauz the headline would be 'Rap Stars Daughter Whoops Proof's Ass.'"

Finally, we got into the airport, where the paparazzi weren't allowed. Thank God. I was about to flip on them. They were just annoying questions. 'Where are you going?' or 'Where are you coming from?'

I had a question for them.

Why do you give a shit?!

"Do you wanna get something to eat while I check our tickets and shit?" My dad asked, handing me a fifty dollar bill. It was rare that he carried anything below a twenty.

"Yeah," I said, "You guys want anything?"

They both said no, and I headed off to the food court. I got a big cinnamon roll thing, and a cappichino from Starbucks. I usually didn't drink coffee, but I was hella tired and needed the energy.

"Careful, they might arrest you at check-in," DeShaun joked, nudging me as we walked through the metal-detectors. I turned around and punched him in the chest. I was glad they let me take my cappichino on the plane. I'd probably pass out within the first ten minutes if I didn't.

"Flight 975 to Miami now boarding," Came over the intercom. I picked up my back pack and put it over my shoulders, off to my new Florida home.

well Brooklyn seems like a teen who is fighting for her dad's attention & maybe even her moom. She's tries to be strong, but on the inside, she's just a little girl. Scared. Of what? I don't know. Marshall & Kim--I haven't felt out yet so I'm intrigued. Smile cheers

Chapter Seven: Welcome To Miami

“Brooklyn, wake up,” My dad said, shaking me awake, “We’re almost there.”

I stretched, yawning and trying to get the sleepiness out of my eyes. I looked at the time. It was only eleven o’ clock. I’d been asleep for almost the whole three hour flight. I was still in a bad mood considering I hadn’t been able to get out of coming to Miami like I thought I was.

Usually, I was able to talk my way out of most situations, but my father had been rock hard about this. I thought he’d ground me, or take away something, but he didn’t. He said I wasn’t fourteen anymore and he couldn’t treat me like I was fourteen anymore.

He was mad at me, I could tell, still. He just wasn’t going to punish me. I guess taking me to Miami to live under his protective, watchful eye was punishment. He was a lot more overprotective than my mom. In fact, my mom wasn’t overprotective at all. Shit, she wasn’t even protective at all.

“The plane will be landing in two minutes,” Said the too-friendly voice over the intercom, “Please fasten your seatbelts and pick up any trash around you. Thank you for choosing American Airlines and I hope you enjoyed your flight.”

“Thank God,” I said, running my fingers through my hair, “I hate airplanes.”

“Me too,” My dad agreed, “They freak me out. After that nine-eleven shit, I don’t want to take my chances.”

“Me neither,” I said, shaking my head.

“Oh, would you two shut up,” DeShaun said from next to my father, by the window, “Ya’ll need to quit being so damn paranoid. We landed safe, didn’t we?”

“Why did he have to move with us?” I asked my dad.

“I dunno,” He shrugged, “The whole best friend thing, it’s kinda important.”

“You wouldn’t want me left all alone in Detroit, would you?” DeShaun asked, giving me his puppy dog pout.

I frowned, “I’m considering it.”

“You’ll like Miami, though, Brooklyn,” My dad said, nudging me.

“Yeah, I will,” I nodded, “All those beach guys?”

“Not for you,” My dad and DeShaun said at the same time. I rolled my eyes and stood up. Most of those beach guys were preppy stuck up kids who think they know it all because Daddy owns a Bentley and they went to a private school.

Please. That so wasn’t my type.

They sure were nice to look at, though. I couldn’t complain there.

We got off of the plane and got our luggage without any problems. I just wasn’t in the mood to deal with those paparazzi again. And they weren’t outside, either. Maybe they knew where we were flying from; they just didn’t know where we were flying to. Good. The paparazzi were annoying the first time.

“Dre’s here?” I asked as we pulled up to the new house. I recognized his custom spinners on his BMW. I looked at my dad, who nodded.

“And 50, too,” He nodded at Curtis’s yellow Lamborghini.

What a show-off.

I went up to my new room without bothering to deal with the shit Dre and Curtis were going to give me for the little stunt I pulled. I didn’t want to hear it
for the five-hundredth time. They were probably down in the home studio, anyway. And that was in the basement.

I unpacked the rest of my stuff and threw away the boxes. My room was neat, just like I liked it. I was putting the new bed sheets on my bed, and I had my back to the door.

“Brooklyn…” Said a familiar voice behind me. My shoulders dropped. I turned around.

“Hi, Curtis,” I said flatly, rolling my eyes because I knew he was just going to give me shit. I put the pillows on my bed, done making it.

“I heard about your fight,” He said, touching the stitches on my forehead, which I had just managed to forget about. Not anymore.

“Yeah,” I huffed, “Who hasn’t heard about it?”

“Don’t tell your dad I said this,” Curtis began, putting his hands in his pockets, “But if I was you, I would have done the same thing.”

“Really?” I asked.

He nodded, “The ghetto that I lived in South Jamaica Queens and the ghetto you lived in Compton is way worse than where he lived in Detroit. I don’t think he can relate like I can. Where he lived was really bad, of course, but it don’t top Compton. You have to do some shit to get by, and I understand that.”

I sat down on my bed, nodding.

“Sometimes people push you,” He said, “And unless you push back harder, they are going to keep pushing until they push you over the edge. Sometimes you can’t just let shit go.”

“Thanks,” I said, smiling a little.

“You don’t have a boyfriend, do you?” He said, putting his hand on my shoulder and narrowing his eyes at me.

“No, Curtis,” I laughed, shaking my head.

“Good,” He said, and turned and walked out of the room, “I wouldn’t want to have to kill somebody.”

I lay back on my bed, tired and unsure of what to do with myself. I was in a new town. I didn’t know anybody. I couldn’t call anybody and ask to hang out. Why did I agree to this again?

Oh, that’s right, I didn’t.

The only people I could hang out with were my dad’s over protective friends. Fun, right? Not. Some people are all like, your dad is Eminem, and you can hang out with all of his famous friends. You are SO lucky. I’d always reply it really ain’t that big of a deal. You get used to them after a while. Because it was true.

It just got annoying that all of my ‘friends’ were always gushing over who my dad was, and blah blah blah. The only one who didn’t do that was Tesha
because I’d known her since I first lived in Compton. She was the only one who treated me like a normal person.

That’s why I was friends with her, because of that. She was the realest friend I had. Probably the only real friend I had. She told me that I was the realist friend she had, too. That was probably why we spent so much time together.

Plus, I hated being at home with my mother.

I wanted to check out the pool, so I put on my ‘Property Of G-Unit’ bikini and grabbed some tanning oil. I lay down on the chair, happy to get to relax for a little bit. I put my sunglasses on so the sun wouldn’t be directly in my eyes.

I guessed I could probably get used to Miami. It’d just take some time. In the neighborhood we lived in, I wouldn’t have to worry about shootings and stabbings every day like I did in Compton. I wouldn’t have to hear sirens ever night. It’d be easier to sleep, at least.

“What you doin?” Dre said, coming outside.

“Catchin’ some rays,” I said, flicking away a bug that was by me.

“Somebody moving in next door,” He said, nodding at the fence that separated our yard from the next persons yard.

“Really?” I asked, “Who?”

“I dunno, but I think the moving van is coming back soon,” He said, “It dropped some shit off earlier.”

After Dre went back inside, I wondered who would be moving in next door. It’d be cool to live next to somebody famous. Well, somebody else famous. Curtis lived on the other side of us, and Dre on the other side of him.

Whoever it was just hit the jack pot if they liked rap. Twenty minutes later, I heard the moving van come back. I grabbed a chair and walked over to the
fence, wanting to see who it was. I watched for a few minutes, not seeing anybody but moving people in uniform. That's when I noticed an old looking but very souped up chevy roll up.

Rapper Plies got out, looking at the house, then at the movers, then at me. I lost my balance, and toppled over, landing on the ground with a loud thump.

Chapter Eight

"Brooklyn, your dad wants you go down to the studio," DeShaun said, walking into the kitchen, where I was sitting at the island, eating some buffalo wings. He went on, "He wants you to see it, and he has your cell phone."

"Really?" I asked, "Sweet."

"Do you need directions down there?" He said, "I'll write some down for you."

I went upstairs and changed into jeans, a a tank top and pink and green DC shoes, and a pink and green plaid belt with a chrome belt buckle that had a 'B' for Brooklyn. It was raining- it had been for almost a week. We'd been in Miami for four days. My first week in Miami, Florida, and it was raining. What's next, a hurricane? I straightened my long, light blonde hair and put on make up, deodorant and perfume.

I hadn't seen Plies- whose real name was Jayson- since he saw me fall of the chair. It was really embarassing, but the scratches on my legs and arm had healed. I'd gotten over it. Nobody besides him had seen it. If DeShaun or Dre had seen it, they'd probably never let me live it down.

"I'm out," I said, grabbing the directions from DeShaun and leaving. I got into my car, a black Cadillac Escalade EXT with black tinted windows. I loved that car. I'd had it for a while, but I just kept it where ever my dad lived because I would never have that car in Compton.

Would you?

I turned on the windshield wipers, and was a little chilly, and decided to get some coffee. I got my faviorate kind, and some for my dad too because, working, he probably needed it. He'd gotten up at like seven this mourning. I'd be really tired.

"Hi, Daddy," I said, handing him the coffee. He showed me around the studio. Tony Yayo and Dre were there, too. It was a big studio- twice as big as the one back in Detroit. It was nicer, too. Probably alot more expensive.

"And in here, is a guy we just signed a few weeks ago," Taking me into a recording room. In the booth, rapping, was Plies, or Jayson.

Of course. He knocked on the window, and beckoned Jayson out.

"This is my daughter, Brooklyn," My dad said, putting his hand on my shoulder. Jayson smiled at me, and stuck out his hand, and I shook it.

"Jayson," He greeted.

"Brooklyn moved with us because she's on the run from the Feds," Yayo said.

"Shut up, Yayo," I said, and then to Jayson, "Don't listen to him."

"It's true," Dre teased, "She got those stitches in gang fight."

Jayson laughed a little bit.

"Don't you guys got to go somewhere that's away from here?" I said, putting my hands on my hips. Jayson laughed again.

"Anyways," My dad said, "I got your phone in my office, let me go get it."

He stepped out of the room. I would have mentioned something to Jayson about moving in next door to us, but that would probably just remind him of me spying on him. He probably thought I was some type of creepy gang member now.

"There's a performance downtown tonight," Dre said, "You coming?"

"Yeah, like I'd ever be caught in public with you," I scoffed, kidding. My dad came in, handing me a pink phone.

"I just put all the phone numbers onto my memory card onto that one," He said, "You gonna come to performance tonight? We staying here till then but Shaun gonna bring you."

"Yeah," I nodded, then something flashed into my memory. I turned to Jayson, "Didn't Irv Gotti offer you a record deal at Murder Inc?"

Everybody in the room seemed surprised by the question, except for Jayson.

"Yeah, they did," He said, "How did you know that?"

"I read it in a magazine somewhere," I shrugged.

"How come you turned them down?" Dre asked.

"Because it was like two days before you offered me one," He said, "I probably wasn't going to take it anyway. I didn't want to be on that record label."

I learned that he had to switch record labels because his old label, Slip-N-Slide, had shut down. So my dad and Dre approached him and his brother Big Gates, who'd just got out of prison, with a record deal.

"Alright, Daddy," I said, after I'd taken some pictures of the studio, "I'm going home to get ready for the perfomance tonight. I'll see you there."

I left the studio, driving through McDonalds before going back home. My dad had yet to go grocery shopping for the house. I guess I'd probably have to do it. My dad wasn't a very homely person, if you hadn't guessed.

"We're leaving at ten," DeShaun said, coming into my room after I'd woken up from a nap. It was eight thirty. That gave me an hour and a half to get ready. I showered, straightened my hair, and dressed in G-Unit jeans, G-Unit shoes and a red tube top that didn't show too much skin, so my dad wouldn't freak.

I curled my hair and was ready to go by the time ten o' clock rolled around. I got into the car with DeShaun, ready for a night of partying.

Chapter Nine

My dad was pulling me out of the club by the back of my shirt, while I was trying to get back into the club, my face flushed, furious. But my strength was no match for his. Proof and Dre each grabbed one of my arms and now my feet were dragging, and I really had no chance. They practically threw me into the limo.

"I leave you alone for fifteen minutes, Marie!" He said, furious, "And you get into a fight? What are you thinking?"

"That bitch had it coming!" I snarled.

"Why are you so quick to fight everyone?" He asked, then snapped to the driver, "Go to my house."

"You would have done the same damn thing if some guy threw a drink on you for no reason!" I said, "Look at my shirt! It's ruined! I didn't do nothing to her, besides be your kid!!"

My father started to say something, then stopped, seemingly dumbstruck, "She did it because of me?"

"Why else?!" I snapped, "I was being tossed dirty looks since i walked in that door! Because I'm with you guys! They thought I was with you, with you!"

They all gave me confused looks.

"They thought I was my dad's girlfriend, not his daughter," I snapped, "That bitch was jealous because I was with you guys!"

"But that doesn't mean you should go fighting people!" My dad said.

"Yeah," Curtis said, "What if that bitch would have pulled a knife?"

"But she didn't!" I protested.

"What if she would have, though?" Dre said.

"I guess I'd be in the hospital," I shrugged casually.

DeShaun smacked me hard on the back of the head, "That ain't funny, Brooklyn!"

"I wasn't trying to be funny," I said, frowning, "It's really not that big of a deal."

"Yeah," Curtis said, "It ain't like you got your damn head cut open and had to get stitches or anything."

I sighed, realizing I wasn't going to win this fight. I put my hands in the air, surrendering, "Okay, no more fighting. I promise, okay?"

"You better not," They all warned at the same time. By the time that we got back to the house, it was nearly midnight. I had beaten the girl pretty well, but she'd scratched me up pretty good. I had scratches on my chest and arms, a few on my legs and one, the deepest one on my neck, going from the back of my right ear to my right shoulder.

When we pulled up to the house, so was Jayson. Of course.

"What happened to you?" Jayson asked.

"Told you she was a convict," Dre said, walking up and moving to put his arm around me.

"Man, shut up," I said, punching his arm, then said to Jayson, "A girl threw her drink on me so I, er, fought her."

Jayson laughed. My dad shot him a slightly dirty look, but he didn't catch it. Jayson said, "That's a little funny. I would have done the same thing if some nigga did that to me."

"Thank you," I said, nodding at him, "Now, I'm going to bed before I go to prison."

I went up stairs and showered, then changed into short pajama shorts and a tank top that showed my belly button. But they weren't going to bed. They seemed to be in the party mood still. My dad didn't really drink, but he was a good partier. I managed to sleep through their rambunctious party until about four thirty in the mourning.

I slumped down the stairs, pushing my hair into a pony tail, leaving bangs down. I found them in the living room, being loud and obnoxious. I stood at the doorway, folding my arms across my chest.

"Oh," My dad said upon seeing me.

"You were probably asleep?" Dre said. Every one was there, even Jayson. They were all staring at me.

I nodded.

"We'll be quiet," Shaun said.

"Thank you," I said groggily.

I turned around and marched back upstairs, in my bed and fast asleep.
